VirtueMart 2 (previously known as VirtueMart 1.5) is a complete rewrite of VM 1.1 using the Joomla MVC framework and introduces a lot new philosophies and direction to eCommerce for Joomla. We would like to introduce VirtueMart 2 and show some of the the new opportunities and features the component provides.
Since September 2009 a new small team has been developing VM and we would like to show our results and the changed philosophy behind the project (Plugins, Calculations, Templating). There are significant functional changes in VirtueMart 2, and experienced users of virtuemart 1.1 may be confused when working with the new features. Those users who modified or hacked VM 1.1 will find that many former workarounds and hacks are no longer required due the improved functionality of VM 2.
This session will be presented by Max Milbers, Lead Developer of VirtueMart
In Jan 2008, a fully revamped version of Joomla! (1.5) was released. Then, in January 2011, Joomla! 1.6.0 was released with some huge changes and a list of new features. In July 2011, Joomla 1.7.0 was released which added additional functionality.
Using a worked example Andrew Rose of Inch Consulting will guide you through the upgrade process and answer questions on what you need to watch out for.
Of course if you have a website built in anything older than the current version, you will want to update your website to the latest form. This sessions covers the methods of doing this, what tools you will need, and also how to jump entire versions and what adjustments to extensions will be needed.
A full Q&A time will be allocated at the end of the session, so you can ask questions to international professionals with years of experience for advice and guidance.
Every website battles against people determined to gain unauthorised access to its content. Many of these attacks are also designed to modify or change the content of a website to display a message of an attacker's choice.
There are many things you can do to make this more difficult for any criminal. Tools are available to help you secure your sites and also others which help you if your site has been compromised.
We will cover in details settings for your hosting, and what settings you should be using to prevent people gaining access through your hosting.
At the end of the session will be a Q&A time, allowing you ask international professionals with years of experience working with Joomla, for advice and help as well as any other related questions you may have.
Joomla! includes a facility called ACL (Access Control Levels). This is a very powerful and incredibly useful feature when building sites. The original Joomla! ACL system was completely rewritten for Joomla 1.6 and is now much easier to setup and administer than in previous versions.
The ACL facility allows you to specify exactly what each user can and cannot access in both the front end and the back end of the website by creating different ACL groups. You can also limit which people can administrate different areas.
This session will compare the ACL system in Joomla! 1.5 with the current system available in Joomla! 1.6 and 1.7 and will show you how to set up and adminsiter access groups within the ACL system.
At the end of the session will be a Q&A time, allowing you ask international professionals with years of experience working with Joomla, for advice and help as well as any other related questions you may have.
The Joomla Extension Directory (JED) is the official repository of extensions available to the Joomla! community.
The JED system is similar to the App Store for the iPhone. It allows people to vote and comment on each item, so you can find the most favoured extensions for your project. All extensions listed in the JED have to conform to Joomla's rules and regulations.
This session will go through how to use the JED, what to look out for and also what it can do for your site.
At the end of the session will be a Q&A time, allowing you ask international professionals with years of experience working with Joomla, for advice and help as well as any other related questions you may have.
